Washington D.C.

The things I already know about Washington DC due to prior knowledge is the president lives

there in the white house. It’s very historical Martin Luther King gave his popular I have a dream

speech there. There’s a lot of stuff to see, like the Lincoln memorial etc. I don’t know too much

about Washington DC, just the basics, but after doing some research I found out a little more

about it. Like Washington was founded in 1791 as the new nation's capital, and it created a

single municipal government for the remaining portion of the district. Last year Washington's

was named the 22 most populated city in the U.S. with 658,893

people there, but that’s just a rough estimate, commuters, make it

even more populated. The metropolitan area of Washington holds

million people naming it the 7th largest metropolitan area of the

country, probably from all the land marks there. All three branches

of the federal government are held there including the congress, the president like I previously stated,

and the supreme court. A very famous museum is located in Washington D.C. called the

Smithsonian. There’s the famous Rock Creek Park, the national mall, rock creek theatre, and the

Frederick Douglass national memorial site. All great tourist attractions. That’s a little bit of what

know and learned a little about Washington before this field trip, I hope to learn much more

after. what I predict I will learn on this field trip, just from looking at the home page is we’ll probably

learn about the white house, like when it was originated etc. We’ll learn about the national archives,

go more in depth on the supreme court, national monuments, the capitol, and even a little

about shopping, which i’m really interested in because why do we have to learn about shopping

isn’t shopping the same all around the world? I am expecting to learn more about the white house

and why it’s located in Washington D.C. how long it’s been there,

and how it evolved over the years. also would like to learn more

about the different types of memorials they have there, and where

they are all located, and how many there are.
